Planning anything in detail takes time. Developing a ski-tour plan for a slope, drainage or region can have uncertainty, especially if one has never been there. Planning for uncertainty of details takes more time and can seem pointless to some. Some like to deal with it when it happens but, if there is a predetermined and organized way, it takes a lot of guess work out. This also allows for "on the fly" adjustments with in-field planning. If one has never been to an area and has to make a plan to travel through, in or around that area. They may make a plan on paper that is ninety percent correct but one leg of the plan has higher uncertainty. Once in the field, the group will need to make an adjustment to the plan due to unforeseen terrain or change in conditions. Digital mapping has improved with satellite, contour lines and, estimated slope shading overlays. Using the Munter Method to estimate travel time has proved to be quite accurate. Below are recent trip plans(gallery) and mapped routes on a slope scale.
