The selected participants of the Avalanche Science Program(ASP) at Colorado Mountain College are required to complete a minimum of 21 credits of academic work. ASP program introduces students to fundamental knowledge surrounding quality field observations of snow, weather and avalanches, safe travel over snow, standard avalanche rescue techniques, leadership, snow science, forecasting, operational planning, and risk management. Right away, I saw how I was able to integrate the program's curriculum into my professional life. I applied my coursework into many roles of ski patrol and my personal backcountry ski touring routine. Below, there are four categories that highlight this integration and application of the ASP curriculum: Operational Planning; Snowpack Obs; Forecasting and an internship.
