Another component of the Avalanche Science Program was for student to complete an internship of their choice. I found I wanted to expand my guiding skill set for safer travel uphill/downhill in steeper more technical terrain, explore the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education(AIARE) Instructor Training Course path, and hone in some more tour planning and AM/PM briefing discussions.
I worked with faculty to come up with an outline for a "Snow School for Guide Development and AIARE Instructor Path". During this time, mentored by AMGA Ski/Rock Guide John MacKinnon, I participated in a Steep Snow Climbing Clinic, a day of Guide Development, tour planning, AM/PM briefings, summaries of each day, and a flow chart describing the AIARE instructor path.
